Tuna fishing as an activity is relatively new on the island, with the tuna season beginning in June and lasting until August. Described as a sport for string nerves and a lot of patience, tuna fishing ideally takes place early in the morning or late in afternoon, although its also possible to catch them at other times of the day. The Mediterranean hosts a number of Tuna varieties, with tuna fishing in Cyprus taking place solely by boat and by using fishing roads, usually placed at the back of the boat. This is perhaps not the sport for everyone, but it’s surely a unique and challenging activity as you witness the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea.

WALK OR CYCLE THROUGH ABUNDANT NATURE TRAILS

Do you have a passion for exploring the natural world on two wheels or on foot? You’ve come to the right place! Take a bicycle or your own two feet and go the Cape Greco Peninsula. Once on location, you will able to enjoy a magnificent ride through the various designated cycling and walking nature trails that weave in and out the park. Alternatively, there is a walking/ cycling path that leads you across the coastline. This one starts from Cape Greco’s Environmental Centre and is a great way to get a good impression of the area.

CYCLING ROUTES TO DIE FOR

Many have deemed Cyprus as the ideal cycling destination due to its favourable weather conditions, the soil morphology, along with the variety of pavements in relatively short distances. The excellent network of secondary roads crossing the Cypriot countryside and the low traffic on these roads are two other factors that make Cyprus great for cycling. Offering varied routes past ancient monuments and through tranquil forests, scenic vineyards and beautiful olive groves, there are hundreds of kilometres of smooth tarmac to enjoy and best of all, unlike other Mediterranean destinations, Cyprus is still undiscovered by cyclists, and waiting to be enjoyed. There are many cycling bike paths in the area to enjoy as well.

WITNESS THE AREA’S LIGHTHOUSE

For centuries Cyprus has always been a point of reference for seafarers. It’s advantageous geographical location also means it was actually one of the most ancient nautical centres of the region. Lighthouses on the island date as far back as the last quarter of the 19th century, most of which were built during the British rule of the island, with the Cape Greco lighthouse being the second to be erected on the island (following the one built in 1888 near the Paphos Harbour).
